Felipe Vazquez Implodes On Thursday
6 years agoPittsburgh Pirates closer Felipe Vazquez did not record a single out on Thursday, blowing a three-run lead in the bottom of the ninth inning and taking the loss against the St. Louis Cardinals. Entering the game with an 8-5 advantage, he gave up a double to the first batter he faced. Following a fielding error, he walked Marcell Ozuna to load the bases. Vazquez then allowed a two-run single followed by the big blow -- a walk-off, three-run home run to Yairo Munoz. This was the third straight day Vazquez pitched, and it's possible he was out of steam, especially coming off of a forearm injury scare on Sunday. He'll almost certainly be unavailable out of the Pittsburgh bullpen on Friday. It might be time to start panicking if you own him.
