5 years agoSan Diego Padres catcher Francisco Mejia has wasted no time staking his worth during spring training, cracking three homers with a 1.275 OPS through 10 games. As MLB’s No. 26 prospect, the 23-year-old Mejia hopes to get meaningful big league experience in 2019. While his offensive capabilities are highly regarded, Mejia’s registered a sub-.200 average and 29 percent strikeout rate in 76 career regular season plate appearances. Further, his subpar defense likely means he’ll cede the bulk of framing duties to veteran catcher Austin Hedges. Although service restrictions could mean Mejia starts 2019 in the minors, it’s probable he’ll eventually serve as Hedges’ primary backup. Due to the lack of fantasy talent in the catcher pool, even Mejia’s part-time offensive potential is worth a late-round flier at his 253 ADP.--Andrew Le - RotoBaller
