Garrett Richards' Strong Start Squandered
4 years agoSan Diego Padres starter Garrett Richards lasted seven strong innings in a no-decision Sunday against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Richards yielded a two-run blast to designated hitter Kole Calhoun in the third frame but otherwise held the D-backs scoreless, allowing six hits and two walks overall while fanning two. With the offense stranding 22 baserunners and the bullpen woes perpetuating, Richards was left off the win column. The 32-year-old holds a 3.45 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 6.6 K/9 and has turned in three strong starts out of five. While the strikeouts are lacking, Richards merits backend starter consideration in standard formats. He draws the Houston Astros next Friday at home.
