Hanser Alberto Joins Royals On Minor League Deal
4 years agoInfielder Hanser Alberto signed a Minor League contract to become a member of the Kansas City Royals, giving the team added infield depth entering Spring Training. Alberto spent the past two seasons serving as Baltimore's primary second baseman, slashing .299/.322/.413 in that span. Known for his extreme aggressiveness at the dish -- he finished in the bottom one percent of the league in walk rate each of the past two years -- Alberto has mashed left-handed pitching in his career to the tune of a .350 BA. Assuming that Whit Merrifield serves primarily as an outfielder during 2021, Alberto's primary keystone competition will be the left-handed-hitting Nicky Lopez, which could allow the duo to serve as a platoon if all breaks right.
