Ja Morant Drafted By Memphis Grizzlies
5 years agoBy trading away Mike Conley, the Memphis Grizzlies opened the door to make Murray State point guard Ja Morant their point guard of the future, selecting him with the second pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. Morant dazzled NBA scouts and fans with a triple-double during the NCAA Tournament, the first one in the men’s bracket since Draymond Green in 2012. Morant’s an exceptional passer and can score in transition and as a spot up shooter. He’ll have plenty of chances to rack up assists to second-year big man Jaren Jackson Jr., but Morant’s offense might take some adjustment to the speed of the NBA game after playing for a mid-major school in college. Morant’s immediate fantasy value will be among the best of all rookies because of the situation he’s in, but it’s difficult to imagine him finishing among the top 15 or so point guards in fantasy scoring at the end of the season. Would be a great dynasty pick, though, for his tremendous upside as a scorer and passer.
