Javier Baez Taking A Seat On Wednesday
3 years agoDetroit Tigers shortstop Javier Baez is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Chicago White Sox. Harold Castro will be covering shortstop and batting second in the game. Baez has continued to struggle at the plate in his first year in a Tigers uniform. He's slashing just .167/.235/.233 with 10 strikeouts over 30 at-bats in June. Across 50 total games this year, he has a .188/.232/.288 slash line to go along with three home runs, 16 RBI and 13 runs. His hard-hit rate has plummeted from 45.2% last year to 34.5% this year while his average exit velocity has taken a similar dip, dropping from 90.1 mph last year to 87.8 mph this year. With shortstop being such a deep position, Baez is someone who can be dropped in standard sized fantasy leagues. In AL-only leagues and deep leagues, however, he should remain on rosters and ideally just be benched until he heats up.
