3 years agoSan Francisco Giants reliever Jose Alvarez got the nod for the ninth inning on Saturday night as he was able to convert his first save of the season in the club's 3-2 win over the Dodgers. It wasn't the prettiest save as he promptly allowed a home run to Freddie Freeman to begin the frame, and then a single to Trea Turner immediately afterwards. He retired the next two batters before allowing another single, but ultimately got Cody Bellinger to groundout and the end the game. Camilo Doval worked the eighth and got the win as manager Gabe Kapler must have been playing the lefty-lefty matchups by allowing Alvarez to work the ninth with Jake McGee getting the night off. Alvarez and his 5.28 ERA won't be a threat to Doval's closing job, so there's no need to make anything out of tonight's contest.--Riley Mrack - RotoBaller
