Josh Richardson Traded To 76ers
5 years agoThe Philadelphia 76ers have reportedly acquired guard Josh Richardson in a sign-and-trade deal with the Miami Heat. The Sixers lost guard J.J. Redick to the Pelicans in free agency earlier on Sunday, so the acquisition of Richardson helps to fill a key hole in the team’s starting lineup. Richardson isn’t close to the shooter Redick is, as he hit just 35.7 percent from three last season, and overall he shot just 41.2 percent from the field as he scored 16.6 points per game and dished out 4.1 assists. There’s hope that Richardson will gain some efficiency back as he’ll suddenly have a much less pressured role on the offense, but it’s a safe bet to assume Richardson’s numbers decrease across the board even as his shooting percentage rises. Maybe he’ll surprise everyone and establish himself as the team’s secondary playmaker, filling out the role that the departing Butler held, but that trusting he’ll get there is risky.
