Julius Randle Continues To Thrive As Starter
6 years agoNew Orleans Pelicans power forward/center Julius Randle has remained in the starting lineup the last two games despite Nikola Mirotic being active. Randle had 21 points, 11 rebounds and three assists for his 21st double-double of the campaign in Saturday's loss to the Timberwolves. He was 7-for-13 from the field and 8-for-10 from the charity stripe. The 24-year-old is attempting (7.8) and making more (6.4) free throws this month than any other month this season as he is shooting 82.1 percent from the charity stripe in January. Randle, who is a career 71.9 percent shooter from the free throw line, is making 72.6 percent of his attempts this year. The fifth-year pro is producing 22.5 points, 10 caroms and 3.2 assists in 22 starts this year. Randle, like Anthony Davis, has been very productive against the Clippers, who they face on Monday, this season. In two games versus the Clips, the 6-foot-10 big man is averaging 27.5 points along with 6.5 rebounds as he is shooting 60.5 percent from the foul line.
