3 years agoPittsburgh Pirates shortstop Kevin Newman (groin) has been on the shelf since April 26 due to groin tightness. On a radio show on Sunday, Pirates general manager Ben Cherington stated that the team expects Newman to being a rehab assignment soon and he added that the hope is for Newman's rehab to begin this coming week. Newman played in 14 games this year before suffering the injury and he slashed .250/.308/.375 with five extra-base hits (four doubles, one triple).--Andrew Ericksen - RotoBaller
