Marcus Smart Faces 2-3-Week Absence With Calf Injury
4 years agoBoston Celtics point/shooting guard Marcus Smart (calf) has been diagnosed with a strained left calf, which is expected to sideline him for around two to three weeks. Per Celtics head coach Brad Stevens, Smart was using crutches as recently as Monday to get around, which could complicate the return window for Boston's premier wing defender. Jeff Teague figures to take on an increased role in Smart's absence both as a two guard and as Kemba Walker's primary backup. The 13.1 points and 6.1 assists that Smart has averaged through his first 17 games are both on pace to set new career-highs, giving reason for optimism that he can continue his strong production upon his return.
