Martin Perez A Pitcher To Avoid Friday
6 years agoTexas Rangers starting pitcher Martin Perez faces the prospect of a tough outing in the Rangers first game after the All-Star break. Perez will face off against the Cleveland Indians, who could field a predominantly right-handed starting lineup against him. This is a problem for Perez, who surrenders a career .350 wOBA and .452 slugging percentage against right-handed hitters. In Perez's favor is that his last start, also his first since from his most recent disabled list stint, was a strong outing, surrendering just one earned run in seven innings. However, Perez has a career 4.57 ERA and a below average career strikeout rate of 13.9%. Therefore there is not enough upside for Perez in this outing to outweigh the potential downside of a rough outing.
