Martin Perez Pitches Well In No-Decision
5 years agoMinnesota Twins starting pitcher Martin Perez turned in a solid performance on Thursday against the Tampa Bay Rays in the Twins 5-2, 18-inning loss. Perez threw seven innings and gave up three hits and two earned runs, while he struck out six batters and walked just one in the contest. Perez is 7-3 on the year and holds a 4.28 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, and 76/37 K/BB ratio over 82 innings pitched. Though his ERA and WHIP aren't great, he holds a superb 33.5% Hard Hit % allowed (14th among qualified starters) and ranks among the league leaders in average exit velocity against as well. His 4.1 BB/9 and uninspiring 21.1% strikeout rate are red flags in fantasy, but his underlying metrics and the explosive offense he has behind him make Martin Perez an intriguing deep-league option. Monitor his next start to see if he has really turned a corner after being mostly ineffective since mid-May.
