Matt Bush Heading Back to Bullpen
7 years agoT.R. Sullivan reports that the Texas Rangers have informed pitcher Matt Bush that he will be returning to the bullpen to start the season and will not be used as a starter. The former first overall pick had been stretching out all spring, even going so far as to work on a third pitch, but it appears the Rangers were not comfortable or confident enough to plug him in. With Bush returning to the 'pen, an already fuzzy closer situation becomes even more so. While incumbent Alex Claudio is the likely choice to start the season, the plethora of options available in Bush, Keone Kela and Tim Lincecum likely means that Claudio's leash will be short. If Bush can get a shot, he has the tools to be a top-end saves option, but whether he will even get a shot remains to be seen.
