7 years agoWashington Nationals catcher Matt Wieters is having himself a spring. In contrast to his disappointing 2017 numbers (wOBA of .273 and 62 wRC+), he's now 7-for-17 at the plate this spring with a home run and five RBI. It's only a small sample, but any news from him is encouraging. The Nationals were looking to pick up J.T. Realmuto from the Marlins, but the asking price (likely a top prospect) was too high. This might have lit a fire under Wieters, who lost weight in the offseason in order to improve. Anyone on the Nationals is worth scooping up and given how barren the position is anyway, Wieters could be a flyer who greatly surprises.--Mario Hernandez - RotoBaller
