Grizzlies Take Jaren Jackson Jr. Fourth Overall
7 years agoJaren Jackson, Jr. was drafted fourth by the Memphis Grizzlies. Jackson has been labeled the most complete big man in the draft. Jackson is more skilled on offense than Mo Bamba and is a better defender than Marvin Bagley III and DeAndre Ayton. He is one of only 10 players since 1992 to post a block rate greater than 14 percent and a true shooting percentage better than 63 percent. Only five of those players have ever made at least 35 threes and blocked more than 100 shots. In his only year at Michigan State, Jackson shot 51 percent from the floor, 80 percent from the line and 45 percent from NBA three distance. He is the youngest player in the draft and will take some time to grow into an NBA body. Having said that, he has been compared to a better Myles Turner. In Turner's rookie year, he averaged 10.3 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.4 blocks, finishing 118 in nine-category leagues. A top-100 rookie season should be a conservative projection.
