7 years agoAccording to manager Mickey Callaway, the New York Mets are apparently considering a six-man rotation upon the return of starting pitcher Jason Vargas, which should happen within the next two weeks or so. Currently, starting pitchers Noah Syndergaard, Jacob deGrom, Steven Matz, Matt Harvey and Zack Wheeler occupy the five slots, but it sounds as though they may not need to bump any of them for Vargas’ inclusion. Callaway said other factors include which pitcher may be most effective in the bullpen, where the team has already seen success this year with former starters Seth Lugo and Robert Gsellman. Given what we’ve seen so far this early in the year, bumping Harvey from the rotation would make the most sense, though we’d like to see more of Wheeler before being so certain. A six-man rotation is usually never good news for anyone.--John Smith
