Mets Not Comitted to Keeping Steven Matz in the Rotation
7 years agoNew York Mets manager Mickey Callaway stated that he isn't committing to another start for starting pitcher Steven Matz. This comes just a few days after Matt Harvey was demoted from the rotation to the bullpen. On paper, Matz's stats doesn't look terrible with a 1-1 record and a 4.42 ERA and 23/8 K/BB ratio. However, Matz lasted just 3 1/3 innings while allowing seven runs (three earned) in a loss Wednesday. One start prior, he allowed three runs in four innings. He's yet to pitch beyond 5 1/3 innings in a single start. The Mets have multiple different options, such as Robert Gsellman and Seth Lugo, who could be placed in the rotation. It isn't for certain that Matz is moved, but with a potential shift to the bullpen and his declining play, he shouldn't be held onto in most fantasy leagues.
