Michael Pineda Agrees With Tigers
3 years agoFree-agent starting pitcher Michael Pineda agreed to a one-year, $5.5 million deal with the Detroit Tigers on Friday. Pineda can make another $2.5 million in incentives. The 33-year-old right-hander spent the last three seasons pitching for the Minnesota Twins, and he went 9-8 with a solid 3.62 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 88 strikeouts in 109 1/3 innings over 22 appearances (21 starts) in his return from an injury the prior season. He'll help give the Tigers a bit more of a veteran presence to their starting rotation and will likely slot in fourth behind Eduardo Rodriguez, Tarik Skubal and Casey Mize in 2022. In eight years with the Seattle Mariners, New York Yankees and Twins, Pineda has posted a 3.98 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, 8.8 K/9 and 2.0 BB/9 in 962 innings. He could be a nice low-cost rotation arm at the end of fantasy drafts.
