6 years agoDetroit Tigers starting pitcher Mike Fiers lived up to his name on Monday afternoon, as he was absolutely on fire working his way through the Blue Jays lineup. He needed just 89 pitches to finish eight innings, striking out five, walking one and allowing just one run on a groundout by Teoscar Hernandez in the fourth inning. Notably, Fiers' command was on the mark, as he threw 67 of his 89 pitches for strikes on the day. Unfortunately, newly-minted closer Joe Jimenez blew the save in the ninth, erasing the possibility for Fiers to notch a win for his superb effort on the mound. Fiers is now 5-5 through 84 2/3 innings across 15 starts, while his two earned runs in his last two starts have lowered his ERA to 3.79. He owns a 63/19 K/BB ratio on the season and remains a deep league back-end starting pitcher for the time being.--Kyle Ringstad - RotoBaller
