New Orleans Pelicans Choose Nickeil Alexander-Walker
5 years agoAfter acquiring the pick in a trade with the Atlanta Hawks, the New Orleans Pelicans have selected Virginia Tech guard Nickeil Alexander-Walker with the 17th pick in the NBA Draft. Alexander-Walker scored 16.2 points per game last season while shooting 53.7 percent from the floor. He made 37.4 percent of his three-pointers. Alexander-Walker fits well as a potential sixth man for the Pelicans, a guy who can initiate the offense at times while also being used as an off-ball shooter. He’ll be fighting for minutes with Josh Hart early on, but Alexander-Walker’s ball-handling skills should give him the advantage, though with both of the Pelicans’ starting guards being guys capable of running an offense, what’s most important is his shot and his ability to slot in as a catch-and-shoot option. I’d be wary of taking him in fantasy re-draft leagues, though, as the Pelicans have a lot of mouths to feed.
