4 years agoTampa Bay Rays relief pitcher Nick Anderson (elbow) will be out for at least the first half of the season with a partially torn ligament in his elbow, according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. The news comes after a rough outing from Anderson on Wednesday, in which his velocity was down by five miles per hour while allowing a hit to four of the six batters he faced. Anderson has been one of the best relievers in Tampa Bay's bullpen since joining the Rays, posting a 2-1 record with six saves last year while posting a 44.8 percent strikeout rate, 5.2 percent walk rate and 0.55 ERA in 19 appearances. He was the fifth Rays player coming off the board in drafts with an ADP of 169, but with the possibility he will be out until early August, there is not much point in drafting him. With Anderson out, Pete Fairbanks and Diego Castillo will be the two pitchers that likely see the greatest increase in usage in high leverage or save opportunities.--Michael Grennell - RotoBaller
