Nicky Lopez Exits Game Saturday Due To Injury
4 years agoKansas City Royals second baseman Nicky Lopez sustained a shin ailment during Saturday’s contest against the White Sox, forcing him to exit early after going 0-for-2 with six runners left on base. Lopez has scuffled to begin 2020, going 2-for-16 with no extra-base hits in his first eight games. Any extended absence for Lopez would likely allow Whit Merrifield to hold down second base, further prolonging his positional flexibility. Kansas City seems committed to giving Lopez a chance to hold down the keystone, even after delivering a .601 OPS in 103 games last season; but that doesn’t mean that he holds very much value for season-long formats, no matter the league size.
