Jose Trevino Reinstated From Paternity List
2 years agoThe New York Yankees reinstated catcher Jose Trevino from the paternity list on Monday. Trevino has enjoyed a solid season at the plate for the Yankees and fantasy managers this season, batting .254 with a .290 on-base percentage, 10 home runs, and a pair of stolen bases. He's logged 307 plate appearances so far in 2022 and should continue to be the team's primary option behind the plate. New York's other catching options on the 40-man roster include Kyle Higashioka and Ben Rortvedt.Source: New York Yankees
Grayson Rodriguez Strikes Out Seven In Rehab Start
2 years agoBaltimore Orioles pitching prospect Grayson Rodriguez (lat) allowed four earned runs on just one hit while walking three and striking out seven in 2 2/3 innings in his minor league rehab start for Double-A Bowie on Sunday. The No. 4 prospect in all of baseball, per MLB Pipeline, will now report to Triple-A Norfolk to rejoin their starting rotation. It remains to be seen if Rodriguez will make his debut to close out the 2022 regular season at the end of September. The 22-year-old right-hander has gone 5-1 this year with a 2.09 ERA, 0.84 WHIP, 80 strikeouts and 14 walks in 56 innings over 11 starts at Norfolk in 2022. The best bet is that the Orioles play it safe and have Rodriguez compete for a starting spot in the rotation out of spring training next year.Source: Milb.com
Felix Bautista Was Available Sunday
2 years agoBaltimore Orioles rookie closer Felix Bautista (arm) was available out of the bullpen on Sunday in the series finale against the Boston Red Sox. He's now recovered from the arm fatigue he felt after his six-out save over the Toronto Blue Jays last Tuesday. Manager Brandon Hyde said the bout of arm fatigue likely won't change Bautista's usage down the stretch, other than wanting to avoid using him for multiple innings. Bautista already leads the team in appearances with 60, a mark just seven behind the franchise's rookie record. The 27-year-old has been electric for Baltimore in 2022, posting a 1.62 ERA, 0.82 WHIP, 12 saves and 80 strikeouts in 61 innings. Dillon Tate picked up a save with Bautista unavailable on Friday, but Bautista should get the team's next save chance.Source: MLB.com
Orioles Claim Cam Gallagher Off Waivers From Padres
2 years agoThe Baltimore Orioles claimed catcher Cam Gallagher off waivers from the San Diego Padres on Sunday and optioned him to Triple-A Norfolk. The six-year MLB veteran with the Kansas City Royals last played with the Padres farm system. He'll be Baltimore's third catcher on the 40-man roster behind rookie Adley Rutschmann and Robinson Chirinos. In a corresponding move, the Orioles designated right-hander Rico Garcia for assignment. Gallagher only appeared in 18 games for the Royals earlier this year before joining the Padres, and he went 9-for-42 (.214) with no home runs, five RBI and one run scored. In 16 games at Triple-A El Paso with the Padres, he went 14-for-55 (.255) with a homer, 10 RBI and nine runs scored.Source: MLB.com
Rougned Odor Listed As Day-To-Day
2 years agoBaltimore Orioles second baseman Rougned Odor (hand) is listed as day-to-day after he left Sunday's game early against the Boston Red Sox with a right hand contusion after being hit by a pitch. X-rays came back negative, so he could return to the starting lineup as soon as Tuesday for the series opener against the Washington Nationals after an off day on Monday. The 28-year-old left-handed hitter still has a little pop left in his bat (12 home runs), but he's slashing just .199/.269/.355 with 44 RBI, 45 runs scored and six stolen bases in 428 plate appearances over 123 games for the Orioles this year and is only an option down the stretch in deeper fantasy leagues.Source: MLB.com
Anthony Bender Has Tommy John Surgery
2 years agoMiami Marlins relief pitcher Anthony Bender (elbow) had Tommy John surgery on Aug. 30 in Los Angeles. His rehab was moved from Jupiter, Fla., to Miami on Sept. 9. He exited an outing after just five pitches on Aug. 13 and was placed on the injured list on Aug. 14. There's a good chance that the 27-year-old right-hander won't pitch at all in the majors in 2023 after having elbow reconstruction. Before his injury last month, Bender had a 3.26 ERA (4.78 FIP), a 1.29 WHIP, six saves and 17 strikeouts in 19 1/3 relief innings in just his second major league season.Source: MLB.com
Braxton Garrett Scheduled To Start Game 2 Monday
2 years agoMiami Marlins left-hander Braxton Garrett (oblique) rejoined the team on Sept. 9 after starting a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Jacksonville on Sept. 7, when he allowed one run on one hit over 3 1/3 innings, striking out three and walking none on 46 pitches. The Marlins have Garrett listed as the Game 2 starter for a doubleheader on Monday against the Texas Rangers, so he'll be activated from the injured list on Monday. The 25-year-old southpaw went on the IL on Aug. 20 with a right oblique strain. Because he only threw 45 pitches in one rehab start, he'll likely be on a short leash in his first start back on Monday, making him a risky option for starting fantasy lineups. In his 13 starts for Miami this year, Garrett has been solid, posting a 3.67 ERA (3.47 FIP), a 1.21 WHIP, 71 strikeouts and 17 walks in 68 2/3 innings in his third season with Miami.Source: Baseball Press
Jorge Soler's Season Likely Over
2 years agoMiami Marlins outfielder Jorge Soler (back) is unlikely to return before the end of the season, according to manager Don Mattingly. Soler recently completed baseball activities in Florida, including taking batting practice on the field on Aug. 29 and hitting in a simulated game on Sept. 3, had his rehab moved to Miami on Sept. 9. He last played in a major league game on July 22, when he was removed due to back stiffness. "Soli's kind of been a little bit 'feel 100 percent, feel 100 percent, feel a little something, feel 100 percent, feel 100 percent, feels a little something,'" Mattingly said. "It seems like [a return this season] is probably out the window, too." The 30-year-old Cuban slugger has hit just .207/.295/.400 with 13 homers, 34 RBI and 32 runs scored in 270 at-bats for Miami this season. He can be dropped in redraft leagues.Source: MLB.com
Giants Give Wilmer Flores Two-Year Extension
2 years agoThe San Francisco Giants and infielder Wilmer Flores agreed on a two-year contract extension on Monday with a mutual option for the 2025 season, according to a source. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, and it's pending a physical. In his third season with the Giants in 2022, Flores is hitting .235/.319/.414 with a career-high-tying 18 home runs, 65 RBI and 66 runs scored in 523 plate appearances over 132 games played. He's not much of an asset these days on defense, other than the fact that he can play both corner infield spots, but he's supplied nice power for the Gigantes this year. Because of other injuries on the team, Flores has pretty much been an everyday player this year, and he could serve in a platoon role at first base in 2023 if Brandon Belt (knee) is unable to continue his career.Source: New York Post - Joel Sherman
Shane McClanahan Likely To Return Thursday
2 years agoTampa Bay Rays left-hander Shane McClanahan (shoulder) will likely make his return from the injured list to start the series finale against the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday, Sept. 15, after missing the minimum 15 days on the injured list. McClanahan threw a simulated game of around 50 pitches at Yankee Stadium on Sept. 9 and came out of it feeling "really good." The All-Star southpaw landed on the IL on Aug. 31, a day after he was scratched from his start against the Miami Marlins. "I think I made the right decision to shut it down early when it was still very, very minor," McClanahan said. "And I think I'm seeing that benefit right now." The 25-year-old has gone 11-5 this year with a 2.20 ERA (2.64 FIP), a 0.86 WHIP and 182 strikeouts in 147 1/3 innings over 24 starts for the Rays in 2022.Source: MLB.com
Avisail Garcia Remains Out For Game 1 Monday
2 years agoMiami Marlins outfielder Avisail Garcia (hamstring) remains out of the starting lineup on Monday for the first game of a doubleheader against the Texas Rangers. Garcia is dealing with a hamstring injury that previously put him on the injured list for a month, and he aggravated the injury on Saturday. For now, fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day with left hamstring discomfort, but if he doesn't return to the lineup soon, he might have to be shut down for the rest of the season. Jerar Encarnacion is starting in right field and hitting eighth, while Garrett Cooper is serving as the designated hitter and batting third for Game 1 on Monday against Rangers right-hander Glenn Otto.Source: Baseball Press
Nelson Velazquez Remains Out On Sunday
2 years agoChicago Cubs outfielder Nelson Velazquez (illness) remains out of the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the San Francisco Giants. He was a late scratch on Friday due to a non-COVID related illness. Possibly, the Cubs decided to have him sit out due to the fact a right-hander pitcher is on the mound. Ian Happ, Rafael Ortega and Seiya Suzuki will cover the outfield for the Cubs on Sunday night. The expectation is that Velazquez will return within the next few days.Source: MLB.com
Ryan Helsley Collects 16th Save
2 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals relief pitcher Ryan Helsley struggled, but was able to hold off the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday. The right-hander was brought in during the ninth inning to protect a two-run game. The 28-year-old allowed one run, but was able to escape with his 16th save of the season. He has now converted 16 of his 20 save chances this season. Fantasy managers should be able to continue leaning on Helsley throughout the rest of the season.Source: MLB.com
Trevor Story Removed From Sunday's Game
2 years agoBoston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story (heel) was removed during Sunday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. It seems that Story suffered a heel injury while running to first base. The severity of the injury is unknown, but he was likely removed from the game as a precaution. He's expected to undergo further testing, so fantasy managers will have to wait for more information.Source: Pete Abraham
Albert Pujols Blasts Go-Ahead Homer
2 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols launched his 697th career home run of his career on Sunday. The 42-year-old hit a go-ahead two-run home run off right-hander Chase De Jong in the ninth inning. The future Hall of Famer has now hit a home run in back-to-back contests. He continues to close in on 700 career home runs as the season whines down. Pujols isn't much of a fantasy factor, but hopefully he'll be able to achieve this milestone.Source: MLB.com
