Felix Bautista Plays Catch Saturday, Could Be Available
2 years agoBaltimore Orioles relief pitcher Felix Bautista (arm) played catch on Saturday and could be available to pitch, according to manager Brandon Hyde. The Orioles dominant closer didn't come in to pitch in a save situation on Friday, and Hyde told reporters after that Bautista is dealing with arm fatigue. It sounds like if he isn't ready to go today he will be good for tomorrow at the latest, so things are looking positive for the big righty and his fantasy owners. He has an outstanding 1.62 ERA, 0.82 WHIP, and 80 K in 61 IP while converting 12 of 13 save opportunities. He needs to be rostered in any league where saves matter.Source: Zachary Silver
Corbin Carroll Sitting Out Saturday
2 years agoArizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll is out of the lineup Saturday against the Colorado Rockies. Carroll has been hot recently, with a homer in each of his last two games, and would likely be in the lineup under normal circumstances. Unfortunately, the Diamondbacks have to limit the stud rookie's plate appearances to close out the season so that he doesn't break the rookie threshold of 130 at-bats, so he will sit a game every once in a while. Losing a hitter game in Coors Field isn't what fantasy managers want at this time of the year, but sadly the D-backs don't care about what we want. He should be back in the lineup tomorrow.Source: Baseball Press
Tony La Russa Cleared For Travel By White Sox Doctors
2 years agoChicago White Sox manager Tony La Russa has been cleared to travel to Oakland to attend Dave Stewart's uniform number retirement ceremony. This is a good step for the Hall-of-Famer, who has been out since August 31 after undergoing tests on his heart. He still hasn't been cleared to manage, but is likely doing all he can to get back in the dugout as his team tries to rally into a postseason spot. We wish him the best and hope he can get back quickly.Source: Chicago White Sox
Patrick Wisdom Activated From The Injured List
2 years agoChicago Cubs corner infielder Patrick Wisdom (finger) has been activated from the 10-day injured list on Saturday. The 31-year-old slugger missed a few weeks with a ring finger sprain on his left hand but he should be good to go for the remainder of the regular season. Wisdom owns a subpar .217/.311/.438 batting line but does have 22 home runs, 58 RBI, and seven stolen bases over 411 at-bats on the year. Second baseman Nick Madrigal (groin) was placed on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move.Source: Patrick Mooney of The Athletic
Nick Madrigal Placed On The Injured List
2 years agoChicago Cubs second baseman Nick Madrigal (groin) has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a right groin strain. The 25-year-old infielder left Friday's game against the Giants early with right groin tightness and that's the ailment that's placed him on the IL. He was hampered by a left groin issue earlier this season as well. Injuries have limited Madrigal to just 59 games played this season where he's put together a .249 batting average to go along with a .587 OPS and seven RBI over 209 at-bats. There's a chance he could make it back for the end of the regular season.Source: Patrick Mooney of The Athletic
Steven Matz Starting At Double-A Springfield On Saturday
2 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Steven Matz (knee) is set to make another rehab start with Double-A Springfield on Saturday. The 31-year-old lefty made a rehab start earlier this week, pitching 1 1/3 scoreless innings. If he continues with his progression, he could return to the Cardinals in the next few weeks or so. Matz has been out since July 24 with an MCL tear in his left knee. He put together a 5.70 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, and 51:9 K/BB ratio over 10 starts (42 2/3 innings) before going down.Source: Cardinals Player Development
Dominic Leone Has Been Released
2 years agoSan Francisco Giants relief pitcher Dominic Leone has received unconditional release waivers. The veteran reliever was put on the injured list earlier in the week with a right elbow impingement but San Francisco decided just to release him. He had an up-and-down season, compiling a 4.01 ERA, 1.60 WHIP, and 52:24 K/BB ratio over 49 1/3 innings (55 appearances) out of the Giants bullpen this year.Source: Evan Webeck of The Mercury News
Luis Robert Remains Out For The White Sox
2 years agoChicago White Sox outfielder Luis Robert (hand) is still absent from the lineup on Saturday against the Oakland Athletics. The dynamic 25-year-old will miss his fourth straight game after being plunked on the hand on Tuesday against the Mariners. Prior to being struck on the hand, he was dealing with a left wrist injury that kept him in and out of the lineup. He currently has no timetable for his return but fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now.Source: MLB.com
Josh Winder Likely Recalled To Start Sunday
2 years agoMinnesota Twins starting pitcher Josh Winder has been scratched from his start at Triple-A St. Paul on Saturday, which likely means he'll be recalled to start Sunday vs. the Cleveland Guardians. This is according to beat writer Aaron Gleeman, who reported that when the Twins used Aaron Sanchez in relief on Friday night that they would need a new starter for Sunday. The 25-year-old righty owns a 3.77 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and 29:14 K/BB ratio across 45 1/3 innings (10 appearances, six starts) for the Twins this season. He's not necessarily someone that managers should consider streaming in the fantasy playoffs.Source: Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic
Yasmani Grandal Back In The Lineup
2 years agoChicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal (back) has returned to the lineup on Saturday against the Oakland Athletics. The veteran backstop had missed the previous two games with back tightness but he's back out there behind the dish and batting eighth against Oakland hurler Adrian Martinez. Injuries have limited Grandal to just 81 games played this season, he's slashing .203/.309/.269 with four home runs and 23 RBI over 271 at-bats.Source: MLB.com
Anthony Rizzo No Longer Experiencing Headaches
2 years agoNew York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo (head, back) is no longer experiencing headaches, according to manager Aaron Boone. Rizzo had a blood patch done on Friday and is expected to be with the team at the ballpark on Saturday. Boone also said that Rizzo could be able to play by the end of the team's upcoming road trip. The 33-year-old started experiencing headaches after he received an epidural injection last week for lower back pain. But it looks like he's turned a corner now, and he could return by Sept. 20 when the Yankees start a series against the Pittsburgh Pirates at home. Rizzo is hitting just .225 on the year, but he has been a must-start in fantasy when on the field due to his 30 long balls, 71 RBI, 71 runs scored and six stolen bases in 414 at-bats.Source: MLB.com - Bryan Hoch
Felix Bautista Dealing With Arm Fatigue
2 years agoBaltimore Orioles rookie closer Felix Bautista (arm) is dealing with arm fatigue, according to skipper Brandon Hyde. It explains why Dillon Tate came in to earn his fourth save of the year on Friday in the 3-2 win over the Boston Red Sox. The Orioles want to give Bautista a few more days to rest, so if another save opportunity comes up again for Baltimore on Saturday or Sunday, it could be Tate or Cionel Perez getting the save chance. Fantasy managers should consider Bautista to be day-to-day-for now. The 27-year-old Dominican right-hander has been excellent for the contending O's in 2022, posting a 1.62 ERA (2.87 FIP), a 0.82 WHIP, 12 saves and 80 strikeouts in 61 innings pitched this year.Source: The Baltimore Sun - Nathan Ruiz
Starling Marte Could Land On Injured List
2 years agoNew York Mets outfielder Starling Marte (finger) never attempted baseball activities before Friday's game, according to skipper Buck Showalter. Marte will try again on Saturday, with an injured list stint still a strong possibility. The 33-year-old veteran suffered a non-displaced fracture of his right middle finger after he was hit by a pitch on Tuesday, and the Mets initially listed him as day-to-day. If he can't get going this weekend, it seems likely they'll put him on the injured list to let him heal further. While time is running out for fantasy managers, Marte needs to remain stashed everywhere. He's currently hitting .292 with 16 home runs, 63 RBI, 76 runs scored and 18 stolen bases. The left-handed hitting Tyler Naquin has started in right field for the Mets since Marte suffered the injury on Tuesday.Source: New York Post - Mike Puma
Luis Severino To Make Another Rehab Start Thursday
2 years agoUpdating a previous report, New York Yankees starting pitcher Luis Severino (lat) will make another minor league rehab start on Thursday due to scheduling, according to manager Aaron Boone. Severino is expected to be activated from the injured list the following Wednesday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The 28-year-old right-hander threw 45 pitches in his latest rehab outing with Double-A Somerset on Wednesday, so he'll likely be stretched out a little more before returning to the Yankees starting rotation for the stretch run. There won't be much time for Severino to make an impact for fantasy managers the rest of the way, but he should still be rostered in most leagues.Source: The Athletic - Lindsey Adler
Blake Treinen Dealing With Arm Soreness
2 years agoLos Angeles Dodgers skipper Dave Roberts said that relief pitcher Blake Treinen (arm) is dealing with "arm soreness." Treinen was unavailable to pitch in the 5-4 loss to the division-rival San Diego Padres on Friday night. The veteran relief pitcher recently returned from the 60-day injured list due to a shoulder injury, so if this new injury is related to that, it could be bad news. Treinen looked good in two scoreless innings since his return from the injured list, but it remains to be seen if this new issue will keep him out for an extended period of time. For now, he should be considered day-to-day. The 34-year-old has thrown only five innings this year, but he's allowed only one run on a solo homer while striking out six and walking one.Source: The Athletic - Fabian Ardaya
