2 years agoChicago White Sox outfielder Luis Robert (hand) is not in the starting lineup on Thursday against the Cleveland Guardians. Robert went 1-for-8 with three strikeouts in two games this week after returning from ongoing hand/wrist issues on Tuesday. He's played in just four games since Aug. 31 because of his injuries and is limping to the finish line in September. The 25-year-old has played well when healthy this year, but he's been in and out of the lineup, making him a frustrating fantasy commodity. Overall, he's batting .291/.327/.437 with 12 homers, 56 RBI, 54 runs scored and 11 stolen bases in 371 at-bats. AJ Pollock is getting the start in center field and is batting seventh on Thursday against Guardians right-hander Hunter Gaddis.Source: Baseball Press
2 years agoCleveland Guardians left-hander Anthony Gose (elbow) underwent Tommy John surgery on Wednesday in Texas. He's expected to need 12 to 18 months to recover from the elbow reconstruction, so he's highly unlikely to pitch at all for Cleveland next season. Gose hasn't pitched for the Guardians since early July, and he had a 4.71 ERA (5.07 FIP), a 1.38 WHIP, 28 strikeouts and 14 walks in 21 relief innings this year. The 32-year-old southpaw is well off the fantasy baseball radar.Source: The Associated Press - Tom Withers
2 years agoCleveland Guardians infielder Owen Miller is not in the starting lineup for Thursday's game against the Chicago White Sox. Miller is getting a regular day of rest in the midst of a seven-game hitting streak in which he's gone 10-for-27 (.370) with no homers, two RBI and a run scored. The 25-year-old is now hitting .248/.300/.355 with five home runs, 46 RBI, 48 runs scored and a stolen base in his 391 at-bats for the Guardians. With Miller out in Thursday's matinee contest, Josh Naylor is starting at first base and is hitting cleanup, while Steven Kwan will serve as the designated hitter and bat leadoff against White Sox right-hander Lance Lynn.Source: Baseball Press
2 years agoChicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki (hand, wrist) went for X-rays on Wednesday after getting hit by a pitch on his left hand/wrist, according to skipper David Ross. Suzuki finished the game against the New York Mets, going back out to the field for the bottom of the ninth inning. The 28-year-old went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored before getting hit by the pitch. The Cubs have an off day on Thursday, so we'll see if Suzuki is able to return to the lineup on Friday for the start of a weekend series against the Colorado Rockies. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now. On the season, the Japanese outfielder is hitting a respectable .263/.336/.433 with 13 home runs, 45 RBI, 48 runs scored and nine stolen bases in 372 at-bats.Source: Chicago Tribune - Meghan Montemurro
2 years agoLos Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said pitcher Blake Treinen (shoulder) threw a "normal" bullpen session on Wednesday and could face live hitters soon. He was recently activated from the injured list but quickly returned to the IL after experiencing shoulder tightness. The 34-year-old is eligible to come off the injured list next week. This year, he has been limited to five innings due to a shoulder injury. Once activated, Treinen is expected to be used in a high-leverage role. Fantasy managers with an open IL spot can continue to stash Treinen for now.Source: Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic
2 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies first baseman Rhys Hoskins (hand) had X-rays on his right hand come back negative after leaving Wednesday's win over the Miami Marlins. He is not expected to play in the series finale against Miami on Thursday. The 29-year-old exited Wednesday's game early after being hit by a pitch on his right hand during the third inning. He went 0-for-1 before leaving. Edmundo Sosa replaced Hoskins in the game, while Alec Bohm shifted from third base to first. Sosa is expected to be in Thursday's lineup with Hoskins sidelined.Source: Scott Lauber
2 years agoLos Angeles Dodgers pitcher Tony Gonsolin (forearm) threw a bullpen session on Wednesday. According to manager Dave Roberts, the 28-year-old's bullpen results were "encouraging," and he feels Gonsolin can come back and contribute "in some capacity" this year. The right-hander owns a 16-1 record with a 2.10 ERA, 0.86 WHIP, and a 116:35 K: BB across 128 1/3 innings in 2022. Gonsolin will continue to build up his workload and look to return before the end of the year. Fantasy managers with an open IL spot should continue to stash Gonsolin.Source: Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic
2 years agoMinnesota Twins infielder Luis Arraez (hamstring) was removed from Wednesday's game versus the Kansas City Royals with left hamstring tightness. He went 1-for-1 with a run scored before exiting. The 25-year-old sustained the hamstring injury while on the bases, and he was removed from the game the following inning. The severity of his injury is unknown, and he is considered day-to-day. Kyle Garlick replaced him during the second inning. Arraez is deemed questionable for the series finale against the Royals.Source: Betsy Helfand
2 years agoSan Francisco Giants starter Carlos Rodon dominated the Atlanta Braves for five innings on Wednesday, giving up an unearned run on two hits while striking out eight and walking one. The start was good enough for his 13th win of the season and lowered his ERA to 2.84, good for sixth in the National League. Rodon also owns a strong 1.04 WHIP and 220 strikeouts across 167.2 innings. Health was a concern coming into the year, but the 29-year-old already set a career-high in starts (29) and has confirmed that he truly is a fantasy ace.Source: MLB.com
2 years agoColorado Rockies third baseman Ryan McMahon had two hits in five at-bats during Wednesday's 3-0 shutout win over the Chicago White Sox. He also doubled and scored a run. McMahon's again putting up mediocre numbers, slashing .248/.333/.410 with 16 HRs, 60 runs, 62 RBI, and seven stolen bases over 135 games. His fantasy value has typically stemmed from his power and counting stats, but with a drop-off in those categories this year, he's more of a bench player than a starter.Source: MLB.com
2 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies first baseman Rhys Hoskins (hand) was removed from Wednesday's game against the Miami Marlins after he was hit on the right hand by a pitch in the third inning of play. Hoskins has a bruise and is going for X-rays. Fantasy managers and the Phillies can ill-afford a serious injury to Hoskins at this juncture of the season, so they'll be crossing their fingers for his X-rays to come back negative. For now, consider the 29-year-old slugger to be day-to-day. Before leaving the contest, Hoskins was hitless in his only at-bat. Coming into Tuesday's game, Hoskins was slashing .250/.338/.470 with an .809 OPS, 28 home runs, 71 RBI, 75 runs scored and one stolen base in 523 at-bats for the Phils.Source: MLB.com - Todd Zolecki
2 years agoTampa Bay Rays manager Kevin Cash said that second baseman Brandon Lowe's (back) MRI exam showed some inflammation in his back, and he's seeking additional medical opinions to determine the best course of action. The Rays remain hopeful that Lowe will play again this year, but fantasy managers shouldn't be holding out as much hope, especially since the 28-year-old left-handed hitter has disappointed to the tune of a .221/.308/.383 slash line with eight home runs, 25 RBI, 31 runs scored and a steal in 266 plate appearances over 65 games played. The Rays will just be hoping that Lowe can contribute if the club makes it to the postseason. Isaac Paredes is starting at second base on Wednesday, but Jonathan Aranda and Taylor Walls could mix in for however long Lowe is sidelined.Source: Tampa Bay Times - Marc Topkin
2 years agoTampa Bay Rays manager Kevin Cash said right-hander Tyler Glasnow (elbow) came out of his second minor league rehab appearance on Tuesday well, but he will make "multiple" more outings for Triple-A Durham. In his two short rehab outings for Durham, the 29-year-old starting pitcher has given up a run while walking three and striking out four in only 2 1/3 innings. Glasnow hasn't pitched at all this season, and the Rays aren't rushing him back, so it's looking likely that he won't have any fantasy appeal the rest of the way. However, Tampa could decide to use him as a hard-throwing relief option out of the bullpen should they make the postseason.Source: Tampa Bay Times - Marc Topkin
2 years agoWashington Nationals designated hitter Nelson Cruz (eye) has inflammation in his left eye and is out of the starting lineup on Wednesday against the Baltimore Orioles. His doctor gave him eye drops for treatment, and skipper Dave Martinez said Cruz is day-to-day. Fantasy managers need to remove him from their daily lineups. The 42-year-old left the game early on Tuesday due to blurred vision, but hopefully he'll be able to return to the lineup in short order. Washington has a day off on Thursday before starting a series against the Miami Marlins on Friday. With Cruz out Wednesday, Luke Voit is serving as the designated hitter and is batting cleanup against Orioles right-hander Tyler Wells.Source: MASN Sports - Bobby Blanco
2 years agoHouston Astros outfielder Yordan Alvarez (hand) clarified that he wasn't out of the starting lineup on Wednesday against the Detroit Tigers due to hand soreness, as was previously reported. Alvarez was getting a normal day of rest on Wednesday and was available off the bench. He'll be back in the lineup on Thursday for the start of a four-game series against the Oakland Athletics. The 25-year-old has dealt with hand soreness late this season, but apparently that hasn't become an issue again. That's great news as he looks to finish off his first All-Star campaign in the big leagues. Alvarez is currently slashing .295/.403/.598 with a 1.000 OPS, 33 home runs, 84 RBI, 84 runs scored and one steal in 494 plate appearances and 118 games. Get him back into your starting lineups on Thursday.Source: ATT Sportsnet Southwest - Julia Morales
