Rangers Select Kumar Rocker Third Overall

2 years agoThe Texas Rangers selected right-handed pitcher Kumar Rocker third overall in the 2022 MLB draft. The pick came as a bit of a surprise for several reasons. He was drafted 10th overall by the New York Mets in 2021, but the Mets chose not to extend an offer to him after the team looked at his medicals. Shortly after the Mets passed on Rocker, he underwent shoulder surgery. The 22-year-old is a tantalizing talent with a fastball that has touched 99-100 mph at times. He had some remarkable performances during his time at Vanderbilt University, including a no-hitter and a 19-strikeout game.
