Rougned Odor Slated For Utility Role To Begin 2021
4 years agoThe Texas Rangers have Rougned Odor under contract through the 2022 season, and with a significant financial investment, they're going to try and get as much out of him as possible. That apparently includes shifting the team's longtime second baseman to both the hot corner and outfield, when needed in '21, per general manager Chris Young. After leading the American League with 178 strikeouts in 2019, Odor slashed a woeful .167/.209/.413 in 148 plate appearances last season, striking out in a career-high 31.8 percent of his at-bats. Nick Solak is expected to serve as Texas' starting second baseman to begin the year, with Odor not retaining relevant season-long value due to his newfound utility role which cannot guarantee him consistent at-bats.
