Royals To Give Bobby Witt Jr. A Look At Third Base
3 years agoThe Kansas City Royals have been planning to give shortstop prospect Bobby Witt Jr. a look at third base to open the 2022 season, with Adalberto Mondesi at shortstop, Nicky Lopez at second base and Whit Merrifield in right field. Witt is currently MLB Pipeline's No. 3 overall prospect in baseball, behind only Adley Rutschman and Julio Rodriguez. The 21-year-old was primarily a shortstop in the minors, but the Royals could start him at the hot corner to begin his MLB career. Split between Double-A Northwest Arkansas and Triple-A Omaha in 2021, Witt slashed an impressive .290/.361/.576 with 33 home runs, 97 RBI and 29 stolen bases in 564 plate appearances. Witt will be a popular fantasy commodity with five-category upside in his rookie season.
