Ryan McMahon Goes Yard On Monday
4 years agoColorado Rockies second baseman Ryan McMahon went 3-for-3 at the dish and bopped a solo home run on Monday vs. the Texas Rangers. McMahon took Rangers' starter Dane Dunning deep in the first inning for his third home run of the spring. He chipped in a pair of singles later in the game as well. The 26-year-old is having a decent Cactus League up to this point with a .250/.318/.500 batting line to go along with three home runs and seven RBI across 40 at-bats. Most importantly, McMahon has been getting a lot of work at second base in the wake of the Brendan Rodgers injury. He was originally slated to move over to third base after Nolan Arenado was traded but it appears he'll get a fair amount of work at second, at least until Rodgers returns. He's taken the majority of his spring at-bats in the number two hole as well, which bodes well for his production prospects. McMahon has power upside but he's a liability in batting average and on-base percentage. He's coming off a disappointing 2020 when he hit just .215/.295/.419 with nine home runs, 26 RBI, and a whopping 66 strikeouts in 52 games. He should have multi-position eligibility and is capable of smashing 25-30 home runs so there is some late-round appeal here if you can stomach the poor rate stats.
