Sergio Garcia Too Risky At Torrey Pines
4 years agoSergio Garcia will return to Torrey Pines for the first time since the 2008 U.S. Open. Yes, you read that correctly. It has been a long time since Garcia teed it up in San Diego, but he did finish in the top 20 in 2008. More recently, Garcia made his last cut at the Charles Schwab Challenge and finished T20, but he missed four straight cuts before that, including the Masters and PGA Championship. Garcia won't struggle with the distance of Torrey Pines, as he sits 17th on tour in driving distance and second in strokes gained off the tee. However, Garcia hits less than 60% of fairways, which will be an issue with the thick rough expected this week. His putting continues to be brutal in 2021, too, as he sits 192nd on tour in strokes gained in putting. Overall, Garcia carries too much risk this week.
