Spencer Dinwiddie To Decline Player Option
3 years agoBrooklyn Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie (knee) is expected to decline his player option and take his chances in free agency this offseason. The 28-year-old is due to make $12.3 million but will likely draw interest from a multitude of teams throughout the league in need of a point guard of his caliber. Dinwiddie missed nearly the entire 2020-21 campaign after suffering a partial ACL tear in his right knee. He also was a reliable presence for the Nets last season after Kyrie Irving went down with a shoulder issue, finishing the bubble year by compiling a career-high 20.6 points and 6.8 assists. The veteran has Bird Rights, meaning the team can go over the cap to resign him, or a sign-and-trade deal also remains a possibility. Regardless, he could be in line for his best season to date if he finds a new home, as long as he stays healthy moving ahead.
