6 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Steven Matz has really seemed to turn his career around in 2018, but he could not keep the good times rolling in Colorado against the Rockies on Thursday. Matz was hit hard to the tune of five earned runs on eight hits and two walks across 5 2/3 innings pitched, striking out six in the process. The silver lining here is that the bad outing was easily Matz’s worst of 2018. It marks only the second time this season he’s allowed four runs or more, and he still owns a 3.68 ERA and 1.28 WHIP across 71 innings pitched. If his health holds up, which is always a question with Matz, he should set career bests across the board.--John Smith
