6 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Steven Matz had his worst outing of the season on June 21 against the Colorado Rockies, but he rebounded in a big way against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday. Across seven innings pitched, Matz allowed three earned runs on six hits without walking a better and struck out seven on the night in a no-decision. The outing lowers Matz’s ERA to 3.69 and his WHIP to 1.24 with 70 strikeouts against 30 walks in 78 innings pitched. Practically out of nowhere Matz finally seems to be on the way to becoming the pitcher the Mets hoped he could be when they called him up in 2015, so long as he continues to stay healthy. With inconsistent strikeout totals, he’s tough to rely on as an every-week fantasy option, but he’s not crazy far off either.--John Smith
