7 years agoAfter two consecutive successful outings, which is a rarity for him, New York Mets starting pitcher Steven Matz ran into an obstacle on Saturday against the Arizona Diamondbacks. In a no-decision, Matz allowed four earned runs on six hits and a walk while striking out two across four innings pitched. The rough outing raised his ERA for the year to 4.42, but he’ll look to improve upon that on Friday night against the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park. On paper, it’s not a great matchup for Matz. The Brewers offense is far from elite, ranking 18th in runs scored and 17th in OPS, but they’re a much better one than Arizona. Add in the hitter's ballpark, and it doesn’t have the feel of a productive outing for Matz. Of course, knowing Matz, he’ll come through with a fantastic outing when we least expect it, but we really don’t expect it here.--John Smith
