4 years agoToronto Blue Jays pitcher Steven Matz was acquired from the New York Mets in the offseason in what was more or less a salary dump for the NL team. He was coming off a rough 2020 season that saw him post a 9.68 ERA with 42 hits allowed, including 14 home runs, in 30.2 innings. The lefty continued his climb back to respectability on Saturday with five innings of one-run ball. He allowed five hits and struck out six batters. In three spring starts, Matz has a 0.90 ERA with 12 strikeouts in 10 innings of work. He has not allowed a walk or, more importantly, a home run. The 29-year-old has always been prone to the home run but he had a solid run for the Mets in 2018-2019 and a return to that level would be a huge boost for the pitching-needy Blue Jays.--Marc Hulet - RotoBaller
