Steven Matz Picks Up Third Win
3 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals left-hander Steven Matz pitched well in a 1-0 win over the Kansas City Royals on Monday. Matz tossed six shutout innings while striking out four on the way to improving his record to 3-1 on the season. The 30-year-old has been decent for the Cardinals in his first season in St. Louis, posting a 4.56 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, and 27 strikeouts over 23 2/3 innings of work. Matz has actually pitched better than his ERA indicates if you factor out his rough 2022 season debut in which he coughed up seven runs. He will take on the San Francisco Giants on Saturday next time out.
