2 years agoThe Washington Nationals have placed relief pitcher Tanner Rainey (elbow) on the 60-day injured list due to a UCL sprain. This news comes as quite a surprise as there hadn't been any previous indication that Rainey was dealing with an ailment and now he's slated to miss the majority of the second half of the season, if not all of it. UCL injuries often lead to Tommy John surgery. There hasn't been any report of an intended surgery for Rainey yet, but we should have an update on the prospects of that soon. The 29-year-old had been serving as the team's primary closer this year, converting 12-of-16 save chances. Kyle Finnegan and Carl Edwards Jr. have been the team's most reliable setup men this year, so one of them is likely to be the top candidate for saves going forward. Edwards is 0-for-1 on save opportunities this year while Finnegan is just 1-for-4. Fantasy managers may be best off taking a wait-and-see approach before adding a speculative saves source for the 30-59 Nationals.--Andrew Ericksen - RotoBaller
