Zack Wheeler Allows One Run Over Seven Innings
6 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Zack Wheeler had one of his best outings of the year on Saturday against the Cubs. Wheeler pitched seven innings and allowed five hits, one walk and one earned run while striking out five. He improved to 6-5 on the year and now has a 4.69 ERA and 1.30 WHIP. While those numbers might look rather pedestrian, Wheeler's underlying stats may suggest that he could have a strong second half to the season. His strand rate (65.2%) is much lower than it's ever been and his home run to fly ball rate (14.3%) is nearly double what it was last year (8.1%). With his 25.2% strikeout rate, Wheeler will almost always be helping you in strikeouts, but hopefully he can limit run production going forward. He's a good buy-low option at the right price. His next start will be a tough one at Philadelphia on Thursday.
