Zion Williamson Chosen By Pelicans With First Pick In Draft
5 years agoOn Thursday, the New Orleans Pelicans made official what had been expected since the lottery, taking Duke forward Zion Williamson with the first pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. He’ll join a revamped Pelicans team that no longer features their former star, Anthony Davis, and instead has former Lakers Lonzo Ball and Brandon Ingram. Williamson is an incredible transition scorer, ranking in the 92nd percentile among all college scorers in points per possession in transition situations last year, and he’s perhaps even more capable in isolations. Williamson doesn’t yet look like a guy who can be an off-ball shooter, but he should put up strong numbers right off the bat as he runs the floor, crashes the glass, and uses a combination of drives and cuts to score in the half court. He’s the best rookie in this class for both re-draft and dynasty purposes, though you can expect his fantasy value to rocket a little too high as we head into draft season. Still, he’s going to have a strong rookie campaign.
