NFL Week 3: Thunder Dan's NFL DFS Tiered Rankings (Premium Content)

All other Premium Tools can be accessed on the premium dashboard.

Welcome, RotoBallers, to my official tiered rankings for week 3 of this NFL season! You can find my core plays at RB and WR each week in my Anchors column as well as the rest of my favorites plays in our premium cheat sheet.

The concept behind these rankings is to give you an idea of how to approach lineup building for this week's slate. I will rank all relevant players based on their point-per-dollar value in one of five tiers and then provide notes on each tier explaining how I plan to utilize each tier this week.

Tier 1 is going to have most of my favorite plays and likely a good bit of chalk, but you're not likely going to be able to build too many lineups ONLY using players from Tier 1.

Tiers 2 and 3 are going to have some players you will want to mix and match in lineups, likely at lower ownership than Tier 1.

Tiers 4 and 5 are players that I likely won't have much exposure to that week and are players that you should only consider in large field GPPs if you are going to be mass multi-entering a large number of lineups.

NFL Week 3 - Premium DFS Rankings

  • Rankings are based primarily on DK pricing and are based on points-per-dollar value, not raw points.
  • Core plays are highlighted in green boxes.
  • Bold black font indicates the player is useable in all formats - tournaments and cash games.
  • Bold blue font indicates the player is preferred for tournaments. These are usually lower-owned pivot plays.
  • Red font indicates that I am fading that player, and wouldn't suggest any exposure to them even if you are making multiple builds.
  • If a player is not on the chart, it's likely because they are only a part-time player on offense. I will attempt to update the rankings and notes each week on Saturday or Sunday morning once injury news becomes more concrete.

Tier Notes will be updated tomorrow as more injury info becomes available!

Tier 1 Notes:

This is where the vast majority of my exposure will be - each and every week. You'll see core plays in Tier 1 for cash games and some of my favorite higher-priced GPP options.

For me, it's all about some elite wide receivers and QBs in this tier this week. Kupp and Lockett are such great plays and I'm really high on Shepard and Osborn, too.

Dalvin Cook was a core play for me this week but this ankle has me a tad concerned. I might reserve him for tournaments depending on the news this weekend, and pivot to someone like Derrick Henry in cash (with Ekeler) or just pay down for a tier 2 back as my RB2. Sony Michel is there IF and ONLY IF we get Darrell Henderson ruled out before Sunday.

Travis Kelce is on this slate, so we are playing him in all formats. However, TE is strong this week and you can definitely look at some other options in this tier like Hockenson and Pitts in tourneys, as well as some nice options in Tier 2.

Tier 2 Notes:

The first thing you'll notice is that we have all types of pivots here in tier 2, especially at receiver, which is I feel is a loaded position this week. Mark Andrews is a guy I am coming around on as well as Hollywood Brown as the Ravens are in a great spot this week. Ty'Son Williams is a potentially elite value, too, if he can grab the majority of the carries for Baltimore and get in the end zone.

Pittman had a huge bounceback in week 2, but keep in mind that it could be Eason and not Wentz at QB for the Colts this week. Brady, Cousins, and Allen are three QBs that could all go overlooked and have legit stacking partners. I continue to remain somewhat pessimistic about Barkley and CEH and if they look chalky, I'm considering a fade.

Tier 3 Notes:

This is a weird tier for QBs because I don't hate any of these guys, but I also don't love them either. Even Mahomes is kinda "meh" this week in a somewhat tough matchup and his price is pretty prohibitive. I would only use him in stacks. Brissett and Eason are two really cheap options I don't mind and Lawrence is a high total game and likely going to be playing from behind a lot this year where he can generate garbage points.

Rondale Moore and Sammy Watkins stick out as guys with low floors but high ceilings as both as big-play receivers in good spots. Boyd could eat in the slot against the Steelers but playing anyone against them is dicey. Hooper and Everett are nice values at TE, I just don't want to pay down there too much this week as there are some really good TEs in the upper and mid-tiers.

Tier 4 Notes:

Keep fading Big Ben, seriously. I am a Steelers fan and he looks pretty bad. He will have a big week one of these weeks, but I am not chasing it week in and week out. Patterson is a dart throw at RB and Slayton at WR in the same game. Mooney, if he's healthy, is a guy I have interest in for GPPs as he could develop a nice relationship with rookie QB Justin Fields.

Tier 5 Notes:

As usual, not much to see down here. I rarely play many guys from this tier and this is where you will find most of my fades.
