Welcome to Week 22 of the Cut List. This week I took a look at Marco Gonzales, Wil Myers, Brandon Belt, and Kyle Seager.
As always, these suggestions apply to standard shallow league formats. You wouldn’t want to cut Wil Myers and Marco Gonzales in a deep league, would you?

Time to Move On
Marco Gonzales (SP, SEA)
Cut in 10-team leagues
Why you should cut him: Gonzales is pitching like never before in his major league career, both in terms of inning count and all-around dominance. His past four starts were atrocious, however. In 20 innings, he gave up 38 hits, 23 earned runs, and struck out 17 batters. This is probably a case of late-season arm fatigue that’ll have to be monitored by the Seattle coaching staff. At this point, he’s a safe drop in 10-team leagues. Go ahead and scoop up German Marquez if he’s still available.
Better SP option: German Marquez
Wil Myers (1B/OF, SD)
Cut in 10-team leagues
Why you should cut him: He hit .200 over the last fifteen days and there seems to be no end in sight to his cold streak. Myers is a fine player, but I’m doubting his shallow league viability. Injury proneness aside (and he’s one of the few players who can actually be labeled as such), Myers won’t chip in a high batting average and, to make things even worse, his stolen base prowess has dwindled this year. I wouldn’t rush to cut Myers if your league’s free agent options are weak.
Better 1B options: Ryan Zimmerman, Kendrys Morales
Brandon Belt (1B, SF)
Cut in 10-team leagues
Why you should cut him: A .171 batting average over the last fifteen days doesn’t cut it in standard league crunch time. I wouldn’t want this guy manning my first base spot heading into the playoffs because he’s the very definition of the better-in-real-life-than-fantasy player. His last home run? July 21 at Oakland. His last game with multiple RBI? July 7 against St. Louis. Cut immediately.
Better 1B options: Ryan Zimmerman, Kendrys Morales
Kyle Seager (3B, SEA)
Cut in 10 and 12 team leagues
Why you should cut him: The older, shorter, less talented Seager is in the midst of the worst season of his career. We’re talking career-low walk rate, wRC+, wOBA, AVG, and OBP. There’s no reason he should be owned in any standard shallow league. Cut him even quicker than you’d cut Brandon Belt.
Better 3B options: Todd Frazier, Matt Davidson

- 3-for-20 with 4 runs, 2 HR, 3 RBI, 1 SB since August 19

- 6.0 IP, 0 ER, 2 hits allowed, 3 BB, 8 strikeouts in August 23 win at Miami
Chris Taylor (SS/OF, LAD)
- 6-for-23 with 2 runs, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 2 SB since August 19
