OwnersBox Pitcher Picks
On OwnersBox, you select two Pitchers, and need three games from these two pitchers. Any game you go over after the third, best ball mode is activated - meaning the lowest score is dropped. So a good approach is obviously looking for affordable two-start pitchers for the week with at least three solid matchups in mind.
Lucas Giolito, CWS ($34,000) - at MIL, at KC
Giolito is a little more expensive than I would normally like to pay here, but he has two terrific matchups this week and should be worth the price tag. First, he will be at Milwaukee who are posting a K rate of nearly 25% against right-handed pitching over the previous 10 games. They are also posting just a .142 ISO against righties over that same span. Add in the fact that Giolito will get to face a pitcher in the NL park, and his upside is tremendous. He also will be facing the Royals who have have a wRC+ of just 87 vs. right-handers over the previous 10 days.
Jorge Lopez, BAL ($20,000) - WAS, at DET
Lopez is a tough sell, but given the fact that he is cheap and has two starts, we can give him a whirl here. He will face the Nationals at home and this is likely the start that will get thrown out of the four as they are posting a wRC+ of 126 vs. right-handers over the previous 10 games and just striking out at a rate of over 20%. The start at Dertroit is the one we are paying for here as Detroit is currently striking out at a rate of over 25% vs. right-handers over the previous 10 games and are posting a wRC+ of just 79.
OwnersBox Infielder Picks
The Infield is my favorite position on Ownersbox. You only need 28 games from the five players. Simple math tells you if you average six games per infielder, you are already at the two lowest scores dropped from the lot. That way you can utilize five-game studs as long as you pair them eventually with a seven-game player also to maintain that 30 total games. The Outfield is much more difficult to take advantage this way, so don't waste the opportunity with your infielders!
Trea Turner, WAS ($29,400) - 7 Games
Turner has been on fire and will get seven games against the Orioles and Phillies pitching, both of which have bullpens ranked in the bottom half of baseball in terms of ERA over the previous 15 days. Turner has hit to the tune of a .357 average with three home runs, eight RBI, 13 runs scored, and three stolen bases over his previous 42 at-bats.
Gleyber Torres, NYY ($12,600) - 6 Games
Torres has struggled this season, but $12,600 for six games might too difficult to pass up, especially considering he is starting to heat up. Over his previous 12 at-bats, Torres has gone deep twice and has walked three times, which may signify he is coming out of a slump. He will also be facing the Red Sox in his first series of the week, which is a team he homered against twice last week.
OwnersBox Outfielder Picks
As I mentioned previously, filling the three Outfield slots is more difficult than the five Infielders on OwnersBox. You need 17 games from the three hitters, so that means you mostly want to stay away from five-game hitters. I try to get at least one seven-gamer if possible and aim for at least 19 total games for two lowest score drops.
Akil Baddoo, DET ($21,000) - 7 Games
Baddoo gets seven games combined against the Royals, Twins, and Orioles. He has been raking lately as he 10-for-33 with two home runs, 10 RBI, eight runs scored, and a stolen base over the previous 14 days. Each of the teams he is facing is ranked in the bottom 10 of the league in terms of pen ERA and none of teams have a great starting rotation, either.
Juan Soto, WAS ($35,000) - 7 Games
I am going right back to the Nationals and Juan Soto for this play. Soto has been scorching hot since the break as he has gone 11-for-20 with five home runs, 12 RBI, and eight runs scored. He will be facing the same pitching as Turner in the Orioles and Phillies and this play could work as a nice little stack with Washington for the week ahead.
