Justin Upton Remains Sidelined With Head Injury

Los Angeles Angels left fielder Justin Upton (head) is not in Wednesday's lineup. Upton has not played since September 1 with a concussion. If it weren't September, Upton would likely be placed on the disabled list. However, with expanded rosters the team is likely waiting to see how Upton responds on a day-to-day basis. Jabari […]

Mike Trout Not in Wednesday's Lineup

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game. Eric Young Jr. is playing center field and batting ninth in his absence. No word on why Trout is out, although he was hit by a pitch in Tuesday's game. Young is not a great DFS option for tonight.

Angels Release Infielder Nolan Fontana

The Los Angeles Angels have released infielder Nolan Fontana, clearing a roster spot for catcher Joe Hudson. Fontana is a career .065 hitter in two partial seasons. His two career hits were both home runs. Fontana will likely catch on as AAA depth with someone else, but he is far away from fantasy relevance.

Shohei Ohtani Back in Tuesday's Lineup

Los Angeles Angels designated hitter Shohei Ohtani (elbow) is back in the lineup on Tuesday, batting second against left-hander Mike Minor. There was some concern that Ohtani would be held out of the lineup this week after having his elbow examined after Sunday's start. However, it looks like the Angels are comfortable with him hitting […]

Kole Calhoun Out of Tuesday's Lineup

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Kole Calhoun is not in Tuesday's lineup against left-hander Mike Minor. Calhoun has long struggled against left-handed pitching, and with a plethora of extra bats on hand after roster expansion, he is unlikely to see many at-bats against lefties going forward. Michael Hermosillo entered the lineup in his place, batting ninth […]

Justin Upton Remains Out of Lineup

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Justin Upton (head) is not in the lineup for Tuesday's tilt against the Rangers. Upton has been out since September 1 with a head injury, and no official timetable has been put on his return. Jabari Blash was just recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake, and he will bat seventh and play […]

Shohei Ohtani Not in Saturday's Lineup

Los Angeles Angels designated hitter Shohei Ohtani is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Astros. The right-hander is expected to return to the mound on Sunday, and as has been the routine throughout the year he will not hit the day before (or after) he pitches. Mike Trout is getting a DH […]

Jose Miguel Fernandez Recalled, Starts at First Base

The Los Angeles Angels have recalled infielder Jose Miguel Fernandez from Triple-A Salt Lake. Fernandez is in the lineup on Saturday, playing first and batting sixth. Fernandez had a run with the Halos earlier in the season, hitting .279 with a run and four RBI. Fernandez hit .333 with 17 home runs and an incredible […]

Matt Shoemaker Expected to Start Monday

Los Angeles Angels starter Matt Shoemaker (shoulder) is throwing a bullpen Saturday, lining him up to start for the Angels on Monday. Shoemaker has only made one start this season, and will draw the Rangers on the road on Monday. He is probably not an option right away, but could be an option in deep […]

Angels Recall Junichi Tazawa

The Los Angeles Angels will recall reliever Junichi Tazawa as one of their September call-ups. Tazawa has had an ugly season, sporting a 9.00 ERA in 20 big league innings. He is nothing more than middle relief depth, and should not be owned in any fantasy formats.

Jose Briceno Recalled From Triple-A

The Los Angeles Angels have recalled catcher Jose Briceno from Triple-A Salt Lake. Briceno was recalled to fill the roster spot of Rene Rivera, who was claimed by the Atlanta Braves. Briceno will likely serve as the backup to rookie catcher Francisco Arcia, and is not fantasy relevant.

Kaleb Cowart Starting at First Base

Los Angeles Angels infielder Kaleb Cowart is starting at first base on Thursday, batting ninth. With Albert Pujols out for the season with a knee injury, Cowart will draw the first start at first. However, Jefry Marte is likely going to draw the majority of starts at first for the time being. Additionally, Francisco Arcia […]

Justin Upton Returns to Lineup

Los Angeles Angels left fielder Justin Upton (finger) is back in the lineup, batting fourth and playing left field. Upton has been out for ten days with a finger laceration, but is back and ready to resume his solid season. The outfielder is hitting .267 with 26 home runs on the year, and will be […]

Albert Pujols Has Season-Ending Knee Surgery

Los Angeles Angels first baseman/designated hitter Albert Pujols had season-ending knee surgery on Monday. Pujols played up until the surgery, so there was no indication this was coming. The veteran hit .245 with 19 home runs and 64 RBI on the year. Jefry Marte will likely fill in at first base in the interim. Jose […]

Francisco Arcia In Line For Starting Catcher Role

The Los Angeles Angels let veteran catcher Rene Rivera go on waivers, where he was claimed by the Atlanta Braves. With Rivera gone, the Angels primary backstop will be rookie Francisco Arcia, with Jose Briceno likely serving as the backup. Arcia is slashing .280/.321/.520 with three home runs and 15 RBI in 21 games. He […]

Angels Sign Alexander Ramirez

The Los Angeles Angels have signed 16-year-old outfielder Alexander Ramirez. Ramirez was ranked No. 24 by MLB Pipeline in this year's international class. Scouting reports peg Ramirez as a future corner outfielder with some raw power that could play up as he matures. Obviously Ramirez is a long ways away from the major leagues, but […]

Angels Recall Taylor Cole, Option Williams Jerez

The Los Angeles Angels have recalled right-hander Taylor Cole from Triple-A Salt Lake. In turn, they optioned right-hander Williams Jerez to make room. This is simply a procedural move to get a fresh arm in the bullpen. Jerez will likely be back up when rosters expand in September. Cole has a 4.19 ERA in 19 […]

Shohei Ohtani Sits Against Left-Hander

Once again, Los Angeles Angels designated hitter Shohei Ohtani is out of the lineup against a left-hander. Albert Pujols is serving as the DH, with Jefry Marte entering the lineup and playing first base. Ohtani has rarely started against left-handers this season, so this should come as no surprise. Marte has only hit .213 against […]

Noe Ramirez to Draw Spot Start in Bullpen Game

The Los Angeles Angels are starting reliever Noe Ramirez on Tuesday in a bullpen game. Ramirez is unlikely to go more than two innings, as the team will go with a bevy of relievers to get them through Tuesday's contest. Ramirez has a 4.75 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP on the year. His limited pitch […]

Matt Shoemaker to Make Rehab Start Wednesday

Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Matt Shoemaker (forearm) will head out on a rehab assignment on Wednesday for High-A Inland Empire. Shoemaker is expected to throw between 60-70 pitches. If that goes well, he will likely be ready to return to the majors. Shoemaker has only made one start in the big leagues this season, […]

Shohei Ohtani's Simulation Game Goes Well

Los Angeles Angels phenom Shohei Ohtani (elbow) had a 50-pitch simulation game on Monday that manager Mike Scioscia said went well. Eric Young Jr. To Start in Left Field Friday

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Eric Young Jr. is starting in left field on Friday, batting ninth. With Justin Upton (finger) on the DL and Jabari Blash optioned to Triple-A, Young serves to pick up starts in the interim. He is a cheap source of steals in deeper leagues, with four on the year in 21 […]

David Fletcher Returns to Friday's Lineup

Los Angeles Angels infielder David Fletcher (knee) is back in Friday's lineup, batting second and playing second. Fletcher left Wednesday's game with a knee contusion, but after an off day Thursday he is back. The rookie is hitting .281 with one home run and one steal on the year, and is only an option in […]

Shohei Ohtani Not in Friday's Lineup

Los Angeles Angels designated hitter Shohei Ohtani is not in Friday's lineup against Dallas Keuchel and the Houston Astros. Ohtani has frequently sat against left-handers, and Friday is no exception.
