Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox - Yesterday's Recap

Welcome to the April 16th edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.

Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.

In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on the April 15th games. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Editor's Note: Our incredible team of writers received five total writing awards and 13 award nominations by the Fantasy Sports Writers Association, tops in the industry! Congrats to all the award winners and nominees including Best MLB Series, NFL Series, NBA Writer, PGA Writer and Player Notes writer of the year. Daily Musings

  • Ronald Acuna (seven) takes the power baton from Wilson Ramos & charges to the front.
  • Trey Mancini's (three) high-velocity crowd-pleaser (110 mph) bumps up my donation to cancer charity: $30
  • Starling Marte sends up a 392-foot flare to let you know he's still here.
  • Trevor Rogers limits the damages of Braves' wrath. (5 IP, 2 ER, 3 BB, 7 K)
  • Did Chris Paddack's bedtime story put your mind at ease? (5 IP, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K). MIL/LAD next.
  • The fortune cookie told many people it would be a good year. Mitch Keller (3.1 IP, 7 ER, 1 K). Maybe it was talking about DET next. Might want to see a tarot card reader to confirm.
  • Manny Machado only at three HR, .240 AVG. Wait till he sees the ball well. Second to Acuna in hits above 95 mph (25)
  • Trent Grisham story cont. Beau was smitten with Josephine & willing to show it, including stealing a first-date kiss. Of course, she expected it because she felt the same way. **No, not smitten with herself...STOP THE STORY! You ruined it**
  • Jake Cronenworth swinging a hot bat (.358 AVG). Of course, only about 12 people are jealous of his 1.6 % Brls/PA.
  • He's going the distance (436 feet). He's going for... "Who?" Mitch Haniger (four). That's who. Now stop ruining the song. I've got to sing it again. (412 ft).
  • Justin Dunn (5 IP, 1 ER, 6 K) was waiting to exhale in Camden. Don't get cute vs. LAD next.
  • Oh, the frustrations. Hunter Renfroe's 405 ft = flyout. Miguel Sano's 404 ft = HR.
  • Michael Pineda is a lifesaver. He tames the flaming hot Red Sox (7 IP, 6 K).
  • Nelson Cruz is a career .287 hitter with men on base, but he left six men behind. Why?
  • Jose Ramirez (third HR) giggles as he foils Lance Lynn's (6 IP, 2 ER, 10 K) plan to replicate Carlos Rodon's success.
  • Sean Manaea on his way to ace-dom. Ok, ok. But it was 6 IP, 2 ER, 7 K.
  • Eddie Rosario flashing some new rims. He's already matched 2019 & 2020 totals (3 SB).
  • Why do you do this to yourself? A glutton for punishment? Patrick Corbin w/ 2 IP, 9 ER, 4 BB, 1 K)
  • Have we mentioned that Eduardo Escobar (fifth HR) was heating up?
  • Once you get that body movin...Nate Lowe with second SB.
  • Nick Solak (two) makin another special delivery.
  • Adolis Garcia, I see you there, young man (28). Keep it up. We're cheering for you.
  • Jakob Junis used just a cutter & four-seamer. (5 IP, 2 ER, 6 K). Will it be enough vs. TB next?
  • Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (three) brings out The Attitude Adjuster. Result: 112 mph, 456-foot adjustment). Oh, 24-degree launch angle, in case you're curious.
  • No, don't give up on Tarik Skubal (4 IP, 1 ER, 4 BB, 5 K). Why? PIT next. Nuff said.
  • Lourdes Gurriel Jr. gets his first multi-hit game. The sun is shining through.
  • Matt Olson trying to get his groove back. Second shot of rhythm.
  • You thought Ryan McMahon was stalling? No, just a little stutter step. Sixth tater.
  • Don't smack yourself too hard cause you're missing out. Justin Turner (four) with second straight homer game. (.432 AVG)
  • Not what you were expecting? Julio Urias w/ 6 IP, 4 ER, 6 K. Surely you're not gonna sit him vs. SEA next.

Swing & Misses

  • Sean Manaea 16
  • Ian Anderson 16
  • Michael Pineda 15
  • Julio Urias 14
  • Trevor Rogers 14 (67% Four-seamer & he's not worried about it)
  • Lance Lynn 14
  • Justin Dunn 12
  • Chris Paddack 11 (hahaha. Roger's 67% four-seamer is cute. 73%!!!)
  • Jakob Junis 11
  • Merrill Kelly 10

Endgame

Closing Thoughts

  • It's Friday....all day long your mood should be..."Just got paid...Friday night...party huntin'...feelin right." That shouldn't stop you from getting things done, but you'll get them done in great spirits. Your attitude will be contagious. Others may thank you for that.
Just enjoy the day. You only get so many of them.
