Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox - Yesterday's Recap

Welcome to the April 23rd edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.

Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.

In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on the April 22nd games. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Daily Musings

  • All right! Stop what ya doing, cause Jesse Winker's about to ruin, the image & the style that you're used to. (Two HR)
  • Nick Castellanos (six) back on the NL HR Champ trail...only, he's not alone. {Insert creepy theme music here}
  • RBI HERE! GET YOUR RBI HERE! One game..7 RBI. David Peralta special.
  • How Eugenio Suarez got his groove back. 441-feet of electric slide.
  • "Vidal Sassoon. You don't look good. We don't look good."  Wow. Jonathan India locks up his first sponsorship.
  • Trent Grisham cannot be stopped from ordering that Whataburger Patty Melt COMBO MEAL!!! (fourth HR, fourth SB)
  • "Hell yeah, we're heading to Dollywood!" Woah, Ryan Weathers. You pitched well but didn't get the W. 5.2 IP, 6 K vs the Dodgers.
  • Domingo German was rusty. Gets the W w/ only 18% Whiff rate.
  • Your submission was a valiant attempt,  Mr. Eddie Rosario, but Javier Baez still retains the sexy slide crown.
  • Rafael Devers takes his lady to the drive-in, walks up to the little food shack and says "Combo Meal!" Wise choice. Hot dog, Cheetos, and a coke combo meal coming up. (sixth HR, first SB)
  • Did it take five monster jams for you to realize Mitch Haniger is back?
  • Trevor Williams mixes five pitches above 10% usage. Two-step next week vs ATL/CIN.
  • What's in a number?  26.1 ft/sec sprint speed snags two bags. Alex Verdugo, if you're curious.
  • Pete Alonso (four) has two straight games w/ YAHTZEE!!
  • Ian Happ, step into the sun so you can bloom.  6 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI, .155 AVG.
  • Joey Lucchesi still workin the hell out of that sinker (70% usage).
  • The excitement when you finally get an old tractor running. Kyle Tucker steals his first base.
  • Cristian Javier (5 IP, 1 BB, 9 K) w/ 40% Whiff rate. **What if they find out the secret sauce is made up of primarily two ingredients: Four-seamer (51%) & Slider (36%)**
  • Does one SB make up for four days of meh? Well, we'll take it Josh Rojas.
  • Taylor Widener has a 2.82 ERA that is pretty tidy. The BABIP (.234) & xFIP (4.74) seem determined to make a mess over in the corner.
  • You wanted Lucas Sims & Stefan Crichton? Well, feast your eyes on 1 IP, 3 ER & 0.2 IP, 2 ER, respectively.
  • People be putting wax on the outside to shine Alex Cobb up real nice. It's still 2.2 IP, 4 ER, 3 BB, 4 K).
  • Did anyone stay up to watch the MIA/SF game? Seven total hits in game & it wasn't a pitcher's duel.

Closing Thoughts

  • Every day isn't going to be the best and most happiest day of your life. You'll need secrets to brighten your mood. Here's a free one....when feeling low, just repeat the mantra: "The Humpty Dance is your chance to do the hump....ooooh, sexy baby. Do the Humpty Hump." You'll start feeling much better, especially if you let your body's in motion. Have a great Friday.
