Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox - Yesterday's Recap

Welcome to the April 29th edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.

Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.

In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on the April 28th games. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Editor's Note: Our incredible team of writers received five total writing awards and 13 award nominations by the Fantasy Sports Writers Association, tops in the industry! Congrats to all the award winners and nominees including Best MLB Series, NFL Series, NBA Writer, PGA Writer and Player Notes writer of the year. Be sure to follow their analysis, rankings and advice all year long, and win big with RotoBaller! Read More!

Daily Musings

  • Byron Buxton goes to the movie theater & pays $238 but he gets a COMBO meal w/ Lg drink, Lg popcorn dripping w/ liquid butter, some junior mints, bonbons & and dibs. (5-for-5, w/ HR (eight), 2 x 2B, SB (two))
  • Marcell Ozuna (two) sends up a 453-ft flare. We had a search party mustering.
  • Tauch me, Tauch me now. Did Samantha Fox really believe a Tauchman would give us pleasure? 3-for-4.
  • J.A. Happ rewards those who are loyal. (W, 7 IP, 2 ER, 3 K). You'll be giddy about the TEX/DET starts next week.
  • Mitch Garver (four) is having twins & they're only 6 feet apart (413 & 407). Oooh, puns everywhere.
  • According to Webster, the definition of Hot Streak just has a picture of Jesus Aguilar grinnin'. Five HR in six games.
  • Kolten Wong leading off for a dynamic MIL offense. .325 AVG, second HR.
  • Clayton Kershaw's 7 IP, 8 K making people jealous. "Nope, it's the runs support." ~ deGrom (6 IP, 1 ER, 9 K.
  • Ah, so that is how you make two pitches work. Thank you, Tyler Glasnow. (7 IP, 10 K, 40% Whiff rate.)
  • Whew, Sonny Gray escaped relatively unscathed (5.2 IP, 2 ER, 11 K). The goodness he has the White Sox next...well, damn.
  • Erik Gonzalez gets no respect. 1 HR, 10 RBI, .278 AVGin last 15 games. Can't spare a little bit?
  • I'm not much of a Ford (one) guy. There's some big power under the hood, but what can I say, I'm a Chevy guy.
  • I don't think Dramamine will help Kyle Hendricks investors. 3. 2 IP, 7 ER. Neither will LAD next. PIT afterward might be a cure.
  • I would love a .220 if it came w/ 5 HR, 6 SB, and 20 R+RBI. Marcus Semien is unfortunately only saving one of my lineups.
  • Domingo German (W, 7 IP, 1 BB, 6 K) spinning the O's into a trance. 45% whiff rate on his curveball. Oooh, Dreamweaver. I believe you can get me through the night.
  • Steven Matz can't wait to get back to the AL, cause the NL knows all his tricks. (3.2 IP, 6 ER, 2 K)
  • Lourdes Gurriel Jr. launches his first claw hook to pull himself above the horizon. So close w/ .197 AVG.
  • Bo Bichette loves the long ball. # 6 for your viewing pleasure.
  • Can we just find Ryan Zimmerman a job? 3-for-5 w/ .333 AVG.
  • Cole Irvin displays confidence even in a loss. 6 IP, 2 ER, 8 K. TOR/TB next.
  • Even Mike Zunino (five) is hitting HR. How do I have one of the few that hasn't located the secret passageway?
  • Sweet as maple, Tyler O'Neill has three HR, .316 AVG in last seven games. Oh, you want something special for that? How about a breakfast Combo meal. Chicken 'n' waffles. Mmmm. So good.
  • Very respectable, young man. Johan Oviedo w/ 5 IP, 3 ER, 7 K. I guess that's it. Hope to see you again soon.
  • In the face, man?! C'mon. Anywhere but the face. Bryce Harper gets hit. Hopefully, he's ok.
  • With two HR in three games, has Kyle Lewis found the light? Welcome back.
  • Yo ever spend a bunch of money on something & not wearing it? Oh, in other news. Thank goodness Lance Lynn is returning as I slotted him in the lineup instead of Ryan Weathers (one IP).
  • Ever get the feeling that 4 IP, 4 ER, 5 K is just an average line for SP in 2021?
  • Alex Wood is a maniac, maniac on the bases. Wait. What?! He got caught? Oh, well he still got the W. (6 IP, 2 ER, 9 K).

Endgame

Closing Thoughts

  • Good mornin', good mornin'.
Happiness is contagious. Smile so others can feel it & shower you with happiness.
Need help? Watch the hitting/pitching duel between Freddie Freeman & Anthony Rizzo. Rizzo's 62 mph curveball is wicked. Have a great Thursday.
