It’s a 13-game slate on Monday, which gives us a higher than usual amount of players to work with at the beginning of the week. There are five games on the schedule with an over/under of at least nine total runs. The OAK/TEX matchup leads the way with 11 total runs between them. As I write this, the Rangers are slight favorites, but the line has moved back-and-forth. Texas’ 5.7 implied run total currently leads the slate.
The Cleveland Indians are the only team deemed as heavy favorites (-200 odds, or higher) on the slate. They are -280, with Corey Kluber on the hill. Also, the NYM/NYY game was postponed on Sunday, moving Jacob deGrom’s start to Monday.

DraftKings DFS Starting Pitchers
Ross Stripling, LAD (@ PHI) - $10,200
Stripling is the fifth-most expensive pitcher on DraftKings on Monday, but he’s my third-favorite option among starters. I’ll take that bargain in a 13-game slate. Stripling has struck out at least five batters in nine of the last 10 appearances and allowed two earned runs, or less, in eight of the last 10 outings. The Phillies are fifth in team strikeouts this season (911).
Sean Newcomb, ATL (@ MIA) - $8,200
As much as I’d love to put two stud pitchers on the hill for our DK lineup, it just takes too much of our salary and hinders our ability to build a solid batting order. So, we must look for a pitching deal. The ATL/MIA matchup has the lowest over/under of the slate (eight total runs) and the Braves are favored (-130). Newcomb has already performed well against the Marlins twice this season. Newcomb is 2-0 with a 0.75 ERA and 10 strikeouts in 12 innings against Miami. The Marlins are 26th in runs scored (385 runs in 100 games) and 10th in strikeouts (864) this season.
DraftKings DFS Infielders
C - Robinson Chirinos, TEX (vs. OAK) - $4,100
The .209 AVG isn’t ideal, but Chirinos has notched at least one hit in five of the past six games and he has a .258 ISO against left-handed pitchers. I’m looking to add as many bats from the OAK/TEX game as possible, while maintaining a stable DK salary balance. Chirinos falls into that category.
1B - Joey Votto, CIN (vs. STL) - $4,600
The Reds have an implied run total of five total runs on Monday (fifth-most). Vegas is a believer in Cincinnati (-120) and they also think the STL/CIN matchup will produce plenty of runs (9.5 total runs). Votto will be a big factor against Daniel Poncedeleon. Votto owns a .320 AVG against righties (.217 AVG against lefties).
2B - Hernan Perez, MIL (vs. WSH) - $3,500
This is a spot on offense to save us some money. Per usual, we can look to hitters who have a successful BvP stat line to help narrow the “punt play” search. Perez is 5-for-13 (.385) with four extra-base hits (one home run) against Gio Gonzalez. This season, Gonzalez is 3-4 with a 4.25 ERA on the road (3.09 ERA at home).
3B - Matt Chapman, OAK (@ TEX) - $4,000
When deciding which bats to choose when perusing through the OAK/TEX matchup, it’s hard to pass up on Chapman. First, he leads the Athletics with five hits in the past week (.417). Secondly, his $4,000 price tag is affordable enough to add into any DK lineup. Cole Hamels has allowed at least four earned runs in three of the last four games and home games seem to be his biggest weakness thus far. Hamels is 1-6 with a 5.83 ERA in nine home starts this season.
SS - Jose Reyes, NYM (vs. SD) - $3,000
Reyes is making his first appearance in the DK suggestion page, for me. Since 2017, he owns a .203 ISO against left-handed pitchers and Eric Lauer is allowing righties to bat .305 against him this season. Also, Lauer allowed five earned runs in his last outing, and at least three earned runs in two of the past four games. While Reyes’ base-stealing days are behind him, he’s recorded multiple hits in two of the past three contests.
DraftKings DFS Outfielders
Khris Davis, OAK (@ TEX) - $4,600
This is the splurge of the post when it comes to bats on Monday. Davis is only 4-for-16 (.250) against Hamels in his career, but three of those hits were home runs. Davis is also second on the team with a .216 ISO against left-handed pitchers since 2017. Davis snapped a 10-game homerless streak by belting two homers on Sunday, too.
Mark Canha, OAK (@ TEX) - $3,900
This is the final piece of the OAK/TEX puzzle for us. Canha is 3-for-10 (.300) with two extra-base hits (one home run) against Hamels. He also leads the team with a .268 ISO against southpaws since 2017. This year, Canha is batting .298 against left-handed pitchers (.226 AVG vs. righties). However, Canha was out of the lineup on Sunday with hamstring cramps he sustained from the 11-inning contest the night before.
Adam Jones, BAL (vs. BOS) - $3,800
It was an easy decision to add Jones into the mix. He’s 5-for-12 (.417), with two doubles in the past week. He’s tallied multiple hits in two of the past three contests. Also, while the career average is low against Rick Porcello (12-for-57), Jones has produced four extra-base hits (three home runs).
