Today's Weather
It’s been a relatively quiet month in terms of weather but this slate is downright scary. We have rain forecasted in Pittsburgh, New York, Detroit, Baltimore, Cleveland, Cincinnati and Chicago. Yup, that’s about half of the games, so it’ll be critical to monitor that before submitting lineups.
DraftKings DFS Starting Pitchers
Zack Wheeler, NYM vs. MIA ($10.600)
We always want to use pitchers against the Marlins, especially a guy who’s as talented as Wheeler. While the 4.45 ERA is nothing special, his 3.51 FIP and 26 percent K rate tell a different story. The Mets righty has been superb recently too, scoring at least 21 DK points in five of his last six starts. That’s all you can ask for against a lineup like this, with the Marlins ranking bottom-three in runs scored, OBP, OPS, wOBA and xwOBA. In addition, we anticipate Wheeler entering this game as a -200 favorite with Miami's implied run total below four.
Ryan Yarbrough, TB vs. TOR ($7,800)
Not many people realize just how good of a year this guy has been having because of the opener but Yarbrough is simply one of the best lefties in the AL. That’s evident by his 3.51 FIP and 0.95 WHIP. His numbers have been even better recently, with Yarbrough pitching to a 1.95 ERA and 0.78 WHIP over his last eight appearances. Length is really the only worrisome factor with Yarbrough, but he’s gone more than five innings in three of his last four starts. The icing on the cake is this matchup, with the Blue Jays ranking 20th in K rate, 21st in runs scored, 28th in OBP, 23rd in OPS and 25th in wOBA.
DraftKings DFS Infielders
James McCann – C, CWS vs. DET ($3,600)
Let’s go ahead and get these White Sox out of the way. It’s going to be tough to fade Chicago here because they get to face Drew VerHagen. This guy has been arguably the worst pitcher in the league, which is evident by his 11.66 ERA and 2.80 WHIP. That directly puts McCann in play, as he’s been one of the best hitting catchers in the league this season. In fact, McCann is hitting .278 while generating a .452 SLG and .785 OPS. That’s big production from any catcher, particularly a guy in this price range.
Jose Abreu – 1B, CWS vs. DET ($3,800)
Let’s keep the White Sox rolling with Abreu. While he’s been struggling recently, we have to love him at this price. We’re talking about a perennial All-Star who always provides 30 homers and 100 RBI. He’s actually on pace to surpass that again this season and his .510 career SLG and .855 career OPS tells you everything you need to know. That matchup against VerHagen is the main reason we like him though and it’s amazing to see Abreu below $4,000 in such a supreme circumstance.
Scooter Gennett – 2B, SF vs. WSH ($3,100)
Gennett has earned every bit of this price but it’s amazing nonetheless. While he’s been terrible in limited time this season, this is still a guy who has a .493 SLG and .836 OPS dating back to 2017. What adds to his intrigue here is that he gets the platoon advantage in his favor, with Gennett generating a .308 AVG, .526 SLG and .882 OPS against right-handers in that same span. Most $3,100 players are either on the bench or in the minors, so keep using Gennett until he gets closer to $4,000.
Manny Machado- 3B/SS, SD at SEA ($4,400)
This is one of my favorite plays on the board and it’s hard to understand why Machado remains so cheap. Over his last 42 games, Machado is hitting .330 while accruing a .653 SLG and 1.027 OPS. That’s huge production from a guy who’s generally $5,000 and it’s hard to understand why he’s a discount. What makes it even more strange is the fact that he has a superb matchup, with Machado posting a .484 OBP and 1.307 OPS against left-handers this season. Not to mention, Wade LeBlanc is opposing him with a 5.17 ERA and 1,41 WHIP.
DraftKings DFS Outfielders
Yasiel Puig, CLE vs. TEX ($4,400)
Puig has done nothing but produce since the opening two months and it’s a wonder why DraftKings is keeping his price so affordable. Over his last 43 games, Puig is hitting .312 while generating a .605 SLG and .979 OPS. The simple fact is, there aren't many players providing the power-speed combo that Puig does and he’s only one of a handful of Major Leaguers who has at least 20 homers and 15 steals. The matchup against Ariel Jurado may be the best part of this play, with the Texas righty pitching to a 6.70 ERA and 1.58 WHIP in his last seven starts.
Nick Senzel, CIN vs. LAA ($4,100)
Splits have been a major theme in this article, so let’s go right back to the well. Not only does Senzel typically bat leadoff against left-handers, he absolutely rakes against them. In fact, the rookie has a .338 AVG, .597 SLG and .978 OPS with the platoon advantage in his favor this season. That’s particularly enticing against a guy like Jose Suarez, who’s pitching to a 5.66 ERA and 1,52 WHIP so far this season. That makes this price tag shocking and look for this kid to be a stud in years to come.
