There were more injuries and NFL players hurt last week, so fantasy football managers need to be prepared when making the waiver wire claims and preparing their lineups for Week 14 and the fantasy playoffs home stretch.
Let's check in on the injuries for the Philadelphia Eagles running backs as they enter their Week 14 bye.
Is Miles Sanders hurt again after leaving last game injured, and is rookie Kenneth Gainwell worth picking up off the waiver wire? What will the Eagles' RB situation look like when they return in Week 15? Below, we take a quick look at the updated injury status for Sanders and attempt to answer these questions.
Is Miles Sanders Hurt and Injured Again?
Miles Sanders reinjured the right ankle (that has been bothering him since Week 7) in the fourth quarter of the Week 13 win over the New York Jets. But the good news is that he saw a season-high 24 carries for 120 yards (5.00 yards per carry) and caught all three of his targets for an additional 22 yards. And with the bye week in Week 14, Sanders is planning to be ready in Week 15 against the Washington Football Team.
Sanders has been extremely frustrating this year in fantasy -- he hasn't scored a single touchdown -- but he still shouldn't be outright dropped. With the Eagles new run-heavy approach, Sanders should continue to get a heavy volume of touches.
Is Kenneth Gainwell Worth Picking Up Off the Waiver Wire?
The 22-year-old fifth-rounder Kenneth Gainwell has had a nose for the end zone in 2021 and scored his fifth touchdown (four rushing, one receiving) on an 18-yard run in Week 13 against the Jets. He added 12 carries for 54 yards and caught all five of his targets for 33 yards. The caveat: Boston Scott (illness) didn't see a single touch and Jordan Howard (knee) missed his second straight game.
Gainwell might be worth a flier for depth in PPR leagues, but his role will likely shrink considerably if Philly has a fully healthy backfield when they return from their bye in Week 15.
Should I Start Miles Sanders or Kenneth Gainwell In Week 15?
The Eagles have a bye in Week 14, so it's hard to say what the Eagles backfield will look like in Week 15. But they should at least have Sanders, Scott, and Gainwell in the fold. Scott was active last Sunday against the Jets, but he played just three total offensive snaps while dealing with a non-COVID-19-related illness.
If quarterback Jalen Hurts (ankle) and Howard return from their injuries, this Philly backfield could become a muddled mess. Part of the reason Sanders and Gainwell had so much success in Week 13, other than the fact they were facing the Jets, is that Hurts wasn't active to take valuable rushing opportunities away from them.
